HOT DRINKS
Wow!
If you need a great idea for a gift that can be either a
moderate stocking stuffer,
or built-up into a larger, fun-filled, suggestive and
comprehensive gift,
here is one that we think you should consider:
HOT DRINKS: Cider, Coffee, Tea, Hot Chocolate, Spiced
Punch, & Spirits -
by yours' truly Bob and Mary Lou Heiss,
published for Williams-Sonoma by Ten Speed Press 2007
and available now in bookstores everywhere.
We had quite a bit of fun writing this book, and it has
received more than passing interest
from numerous magazines, newspapers and food enthusiasts
nationwide.
Recipes have been reprinted from it in many publications'
reviews or 'winter drinks' articles, Bob travelled to New
York City last November to demonstrate several of the
drinks live on Martha Stewart Living Radio, and just last
week it received more accolade.
For ideas about how to use it as the anchor of a gift
ensemble
check out Mary Lou's blog at the link below.
If you add a bottle or two of this or that it gets even
better
(and perhaps you will be invited to stay, linger and
enjoy...)
Half alcoholic and half not, the recipes in HOT DRINKS are
great as-is or can be adjusted to your taste or liquor
preference.
Be Inspired!
Here's an example of media coverage of our book.
From the Syracuse New Times:
"Bartender John Rodriguez is warming up some classics like
mulled cider with spiced rum, and experimenting with
Southern-inspired hot chocolate that will involve coconut
rum and peach schnapps. He’s open to your favorite
hot-drink concoctions, too. “If people bring in recipes,
we’ll definitely make them,” says Rodriguez, who was
actually reading Hot Drinks when this reporter stopped by
for lunch recently."

New Tea Now In Stock
How
about a new offering of tea for the taste enthusiast in
your home, extended family or circle of friends?
We have several new choices for you right now and a couple
of others that
are not new but, because of their uniqueness, deserve
mention at this
gifting time of year.
Here are several examples (but not all) :
Recently we secured an amazing white tea from Yunnan
Province.
While we tend to recommend white tea only from its
traditional origin
of Fujian Province, once in a blue moon another white tea
strikes our
fancy and we simply have to recommend it to our tea
enthusiasts -
as a matter of education if nothing else beyond pure
drinking enjoyment!
This Yunnan Bai Mudan is exquisite - easy-drinking and
lush, with a
mouthfeel that only a Yunnan tea will have.
Want something that might stir controversy? How about
'monkey-picking'??
Mary Lou has quite a bit to say about monkey-picked tea on
her blog posting from Nov 24, 2008: 'An Educated Palate' -
see link below.
She is definitely NOT a believer, but I am...historically,
anyway.
Regardless, we do have an excellent 'Monkey-Picked'
Tieguanyin Oolong that you simply must try.
And speaking of Tieguanyin - this varietal is usually
reserved for manufacture into one of the Famous Teas - an
oolong tea.
However, there is a small amount of it manufactured into
black tea every year in China and the Japanese are
experimenting with it
as a possible component of particular Sencha blends. We
have a black tea made from Tieguanyin again right now and
it is delicious -
snappy and bright as an oolong's flavor is, but fully
oxidized into a stunning black tea.
You can cut and paste this link into your browser to read
more about it and order it.
