Passionate
about food and cooking, Bob Heiss has
enjoyed every minute of his 35+ year career
as a hands-on food professional.
Bob, along with food and travel writer Mary
Lou Heiss, is co-owner of one of New
England’s oldest specialty food stores.
Beginning in 1974 as The Coffee Gallery,
their shop has evolved over 34 years into
Cooks Shop Here, a unique specialty foods
store, and their more recent web ventures:
www.CooksShopHere.com
and
www.TeaTrekker.com.
Equally comfortable discussing a variety of
foodstuffs, from estate-grown coffee or
artisanal tea to estate-specific extra
virgin olive oil, source-specific chocolate
or locally-produced cider, Bob regularly
conducts tastings, leads hands-on cooking
classes, and offers presentations to a
variety of community, school, and business
groups on topics ranging from ‘Traditional
Balsamic Vinegar’ to ‘Pasta Classica’ to
‘The Natural History of Chocolate’ to
‘Trekking Remote Villages of Asia Sourcing
Artisan Tea’.
Off the Burner brings together
little-known-facts about food, lore, cooking
tips, interviews with cookbook authors,
chefs, and food personalities, banter with
his long-time producer (and food buddy)
Kelsey Flynn, plus recipes, food selection,
storage tips and nutritional information
about foods that are everything from
everyday to the exotic.
